Airbus integrates Tuleap Enterprise into its ITSM project

Airbus IT Infrastructure has launched a 100% Open Source project : provide a unique ITSM (Information Technology Service Management) tool to manage all the data processing operations : Front Office, Back Office & Connectivity. The new ITOp tool has been created, developed, configured and deployed in a record time of three months thanks to Open Source solutions.

Airbus uses Tuleap

Peter Schoojans, Airbus Operations Head of Infrastructure, and Nicolas Fanjeau, ITOp Project Manager share their experience.

Several challenges reached

"One of the challenges was the analysis of all the tools already installed, in order to bring them together in a unique solution. The second was to provide this solution with only Open Source applications, from the development tool to the infrastructure. Using Open Source allows us to be more innovative and open-minded, and to change our work habits while being flexible and close to clients."
The main objective was the engineering of a common reference point providing high added value and shared by all of corporate departments of Airbus. Airbus needed to reduce internal number of tools, to make their usage easier and to provide a unique access point. All of that while improving quality and harmonization of data.

"In terms of security, Open Source makes us confident. We have the hands to analyze code, find issues and improve security. We’re happy the community can benefit from that too." adds the Project Manager.

Tuleap Enterprise, provided by Enalean, has been selected to take part to the Airbus ITOp Infrastructure as it fits to these requirements. The Airbus software engineering teams have now at their disposal, reliable, secure and evolving tools. After attending some trainings animated by Enalean, teams are now operational.

More efficiency and flexibility, less fees...considerable benefits

The benefits for Airbus are important and already identified by the Heads of the project. They mention:

  • quick installation,
  • flexibility of configuration, contrary to commercial solutions which are hardly customizable,
  • cost savings : there is a cost fo SLA but no licence costs and lower fees for configuration,
  • new approaches and project management methods,
  • task automation.

To sum up this challenge ? "Open Source allows us to make the impossible possible" assesses Nicolas Fanjeau.
