Feedback from EclipseCon NA 2016

Eclipsecon North America 2016

Eclipse is so much more than just an IDE, it’s an open source community of tools, projects and working groups. The eclipsecon north america conference took place beginning of march in Reston Virginia, integrating the IoT Summit.

There were about 300 people attending the event a lot of speakers and many many tracks in parallel. The main track of the conference is aligned with a shared vision that software is eating the world. Trains, planes and automobiles are computers on wheels or wings, whole cities are becoming completely driven by software, even businesses of all sorts are a computer system. Software is the strategic advantage of most successful companies. Mastering the development and avoiding lock’ins is of primordial importance, furthermore as virtuality blends into reality, the internet of things growing at a fast pace, open standards and libre software are the building blocks of a healthy and successful software development strategy.

The sessions ranged from “The evolution of IDEs to Open Source Internet of Things, from AngularJS” to “Your Agile project at Eclipse with Tuleap” (nudge nudge :))

Eclipse Che was the subject of the second day keynote, a developer workspace server and cloud IDE for any framework or programming language, that allows you to take your projects and runtimes everywhere.

Internet of Things has a massive presence and it’s own summit putting the emphasis on the importance of having open standards and open source as a key for success. Docker is present within the Eclipse community as well. Microsoft keeps trying tries to eat it’s way into the open source world and announced that it joins the Eclipse foundation

We also saw that quite a few Eclipse projects are transitioning from Bugzilla to Tuleap. To facilitate this transition, we have already developed a tool to import data from Bugzilla to Tuleap and will continue to do so.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to migrate to Tuleap, we will be at eclipsecon France looking forward to meeting you.

Before closing this post,  we would like to share with you a very pleasant surprise we had in Reston. We learnt that the Canadian Space Agency is using Tuleap 🙂 More about this in an upcoming blogpost…

Call for papers for eclipsecon France is open, looking forward to seeing you in Toulouse from the 7th to the 9th of June.
