Easily tailor your Tuleap issue tracker the way you work

In the last tutorial (Basics of Tuleap tracker), we learned about the basic concepts behind the Tuleap Tracker and how it addresses project management needs.

We are going to look at how to create a new bug tracker and tailor it to your specific needs. No need to be a global administrator of the whole platform, nor to be a project manager. You can customize your tracker in few clicks as soon as you are the manager of it.
Let’s get started ! 😉

1. Select the project

From the menu bar, choose the project in which you want to create a new tracker.

2. Start the issue tracking tool

From the homepage of your project, click on”Trackers” in the menu on the left.

3. Enter Tuleap trackers tool

You will see all the trackers linked to your project on the Trackers page.
To create a new bug tracking, click on “Create a new tracker”

4. Create a new tracker

First you’ll need to choose a template from either
– an existing project
– or an XML file

For this tutorial we will use the “tasks” template.
Then, we will complete the following fields:
1-Name: Tracker name
2-Description: The tracker’s short description
3-Short name: A short name for the tracker. This can be used as a key word for cross references.
Then, press the ‘Create’ button.

5. Your tracker has been created

In the “Administration” tab you can customize your tracker.

The Administration page contains all the tools you need to configure your tracker.

We are now going to define the different fields that we want to have in our tracker. Click on “Manage Field Usage”.

6. Custom your tracker

– You can remove or add new fields by choosing the type of field that you want

– You can also update fields by clicking on the pen

When you click on the pen, you can work with several different features and actions for the tracker:

  • Change the field’s name
  • Choose the field’s rank in the tracker
  • Make the field required
  • Select a default value
  • Add new values
  • Send notifications to selected people

You can remove the field by clicking on the red ‘x’ as well.

7. Create a new artifact

Your tracker is now configured. You can now submit an artifact for the tracker.

8. Customize your report

You can select the data you want to visualize by customizing the columns (1) in your report.

Be careful! If you want to keep this report, do not forget to click on “Save” (2).
You can also change the name of the report by using “Save as …” in “Options” (3).

Now it’s your turn. You can explore and try out bug trackers on the Tuleap Demo

And, remember, you can create as many trackers as you like and use them to track anything and everything!

If you have feedback on this tutorial or questions about Tuleap Trackers, we’ll be glad to hear from you.
